Coastal Conservation Association? Not Really!

CCA is anything but a conservation organization as I have long suspected. Their agenda is more hatchery fish means more fish for sports anglers. They have this ongoing war with Columbia river commercial gillnetters and claim it's because the gill nets are non-selective killing devices that kill hatchery and wild fish alike. No argument there but sports anglers do the same and most could care less about saving wild fish. They oppose barbless hooks and any measure that would safeguard wild fish while all the while talking about how concerned they are....bullshit!

  1. Shane,

My comment calling bullshit on the NFS action alert is based on what I see as an alarmist overstatement. To say that the proposed acclimation facility will hurt wild fish is a stretch, in my opinion. It's one key component of the NFS's original plan for Molalla springers, and the idea was to improve homing & returns. NFS has recently recanted based on some new discoveries, and is crafting a better plan, which I support. But I still feel obliged to call bullshit when I see it. I believe they could have gotten their point across and motivated people in a more careful way.
